I bought a cast iron waffle iron that was protected with kerosene. How do I
clean it so that it can be used?
Personally.I would toss the waffle iron..all though that is not
what you want to hear. Cast iron has pores which expand when the iron gets
hot. What ever was put on the pan when it was hot has seeped down into
those small microscopic pores. When the pan is heated.that ''stuff''
rises to the surface. When the pan cools.those pores close back up again.
That is why most cast iron pans are ''seasoned'' with cooking oil. The
oil seeps down into the pores & seasons the pan so that it can be used over & over without rusting. I would never cook in anything that has been protected with kerosene.
Hot soapy water is about all I can think of.
